Both engines come paired with a Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic electronically-controlled transmission with overdrive and tow/haul mode, although the larger engine's transmission has been beefed up to handle the extra stress. In addition to engine choice, drivers can also select either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Fuel economies vary for the 2013 Chevrolet Suburban based on engine and drivetrain choices, ranging from 21 MPG highway to 15 MPG highway.
