One of the boons of driving a Chevy in the North Charleston area is the fact that winters here are mild, so we don't have to worry quite as much about preparing our vehicles for winter. That said, mild winters don't mean that seasonal maintenance isn't necessary. Temperatures are still cooling down, and a change in seasons is always a good time to check in with your vehicle and check off some basic maintenance items from your to-do list. Here are some of our winter maintenance tips to help you keep your Chevy in exceptional shape.
Oil Change
Keeping up with oil changes is one of the most important things you can do for your vehicle. Oil helps to keep the fast-moving parts of your engine lubricated so that they stay cool and don't wear out as quickly. Driving with old, dirty oil can hamper your vehicle's efficiency and cause damage to your engine, so it's important to make sure that you change your oil every 5,000 to 7,500 miles or so. Even if you don't rack up miles very quickly, you should still schedule an oil change every six months, as oil breaks down over time.
Battery Check
If your car battery is weak, a good cold snap might be all it takes to render it useless. Winter nights in the Summerville and Goose Creek areas can get quite chilly, which can sap your car battery of its strength and rob it of its ability to start your car in the morning. We can run voltage tests here at our service center to see if your car battery needs to be replaced, and we can fit your vehicle with a fresh one if needed.
Wiper Blades
You are more likely to need to rely on your wiper blades during winter when precipitation is a greater threat. If your wiper blades are too worn, they won't do you much good in clearing your windshield as you drive around Mt. Pleasant. We can fit your Chevy with fresh wiper blades to ensure that you are ready for whatever winter throws at you.
