Chevy Equinox is more powerful and confident down bad Summerville roads and through worse weather than Ford Escape. It's also better with gas.
1.5-liter four-cylinder, 1.6-liter diesel, and 2.0-liter I4 engines are available. Each is turbocharged for a balance of energetics and efficiency. Against the three offered in Ford Escape, each puts out more horsepower driven by higher torque. Moreover, by EPA estimates, equipped with a turbo-diesel, Chevy Equinox can get up to 28 mpg in cities like Goose Creek, 39 mpg on highways, and 32 combined mpg. That's many more miles per gallon than even the most economical engine in Ford Escape.
Chevy Equinox is more comprehensive safety feature- and driver assist-wise than Ford Escape.
You can get many starting in the LT trim, and the Premier trim attains fully-loaded status. Plus, you can get each feature individually according to your needs. Best of all, unique features like a Teen Driver coaching system are available to help younger drivers improve their habits and skills behind the wheel. In Ford Escape, you have to invest in a Ford Safe and Smart Package. Its inclusions are a package deal, and no such instructive technology is offered.

Chevy Equinox outclasses Toyota RAV4 on both power ratings and fuel efficiency for longer drives to Goose Creek.
Toyota RAV4 offers but one engine, a 203-horsepower, 2.5-liter Dynamic Force I4. It can put out only 184 pound-feet of torque. There's a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine in Chevy Equinox, however, that's capable of 252 horsepower and 260 pound-feet. Furthermore, Toyota RAV4 can only achieve 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg at best. Those values fall behind the turbo-diesel available in Chevy Equinox.
Chevy Equinox is friendlier to towing a light tent camper, ATV, or pair of dirt bikes than Toyota RAV4.
Equip it with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, and Chevy Equinox can haul as many as 3,500 pounds. The only Toyota RAV4 trim with similar towing skills is the Adventure grade, and that means a sizable investment.
CHEVY EQUINOX VS HONDA CR-V
Chevy Equinox is a quicker accelerator and does better with gas than Honda CR-V.
Depending on which of its diesel and two gas turbo engines you choose, Chevy Equinox can put out 260 max pound-feet of torque. That's more than both the engines offered in Honda CR-V. The more powerful of the two can only produce 180 pound-feet max. Plus, the turbo-diesel engine option gets excellent fuel economy, up to 28 mpg city, 39 mpg down the highway to Mt. Pleasant, and 32 combined mpg by EPA estimates. That puts it ahead of even the most fuel-saving Honda CR-V trim, EX, one that's supposed to be equipped with a more efficient CVT transmission.

You can lug up to 3,500 pounds in a Chevy Equinox outfitted with a 2.0-liter turbo engine. That's plenty for anything from a lightweight pop-up tent camper to a pair of dirt bikes or ATV. Honda CR-V, however, can only haul up to 1,500 pounds.
